We can NOT forget about the great music in Scandinavia, classic and modern. Scandinavian music definitely deserves a thread. I'll kick it off with two of my favorite songs from Njord

Man, I need to go home....to Scandinavia that is. The fjords, the fields, the voice of my ancestors call to me.
Norwegian Edward Grieg:

What a genius

..and of course, my favourite. Death of Åse, from Peer Gynt. Words become meaningless when trying to describe his music:

Norway's greatest modern national romantic composers, Røyksopp. Their poor english is a comment on americanized pop culture. I've heard that accents can ruin the music for native english speakers, their largest markets are Germany, France, Italy and european countries so I don't think they care to change that. They have a history of using blonde, nordic female singers for their music, when all other artists use american negroes.

Norway's greatest 80's export, A-Ha. Topping charts in the US and rest of the world. Far from a one hit wonder, all their songs are beautifully composed. Some of their less known songs:

Denmark's greatest modern musicians, as far as I'm concerned. It took years before they became recognized, and now they're considered geniuses by mainstream music critics. Again the lyrics are not intended for native english speakers.
Scandinavian music is often downtempo and melodic. It's the long winters.

The Cardigans, a great swedish rock group.

Music history right here, without a doubt the most successful scandinavian group ever. Swedish 70's supergroup, ABBA. The female singer, Anni-Frid Lyngstad (the brunette) is the daughter of a german Waffen-SS soldier. Her family fled from persecution in 1945 and settled in Sweden.

Norwegian rock group, Turbonegro. They've been pressured by anti-racist groups to change their name but it never happened. They're huge in Germany and parts of Europe. They're all grown-ups with children and wives, but have some strange image issues. Better that our kids listen to this than P. Diddy and Ice Cube. Their guitarist is a musical genius.

Scandinavian composers. Interesting detail about norwegian composer Christian Sinding, below.

The norwegian composer Christian Sinding was very popular among the National Socialists of Germany. This song was apparently played constantly by german soldiers stationed at the prison camps.
