Tycho Brahe studied a new star which was then called a novae and is now termed a supernova explosion.
Tycho was a mentor to Johannes Kepler.
The novae of 1572 is called Tycho’s Supernova after him as he was one of the discoverers that year, which would not have been hard to spot, as it was said to be about the brightness of Venus. The new star caused great concern, as the official dogma was that the stars had existed forever, and would exist unchanged forever. The sudden appearance of a new star was quite unsettling. Tycho, Kepler, and Galileo did quite a lot to unsettle the status quo, but the Truth will always win out.
With careful precise observations and accurate astronomical equipment, Tycho proved that the novae was at a distance far beyond the moon, which further upset the status quo. He also proved comets to travel at a distance well beyond the moon, which had been unimaginable to the official status quo.
After proving the infallible Church to be fallible, he was invited to become the Official Imperial Astronomer to the Holy Roman Emperor, probably to shut him up and prevent any further revelations.
The remnant of Tycho’s Supernova today SN 1572.
