From today's Yahoo! New Zealand News:
Young Nats push for gay adoption
Younger members of the National Party are pushing for law reform which would allow gay couples to adopt children.
The Young Nats' northern regional conference in Auckland at the weekend passed a remit supporting adoption by couples in a civil union.
They want an overhaul of the 1955 Adoption Act, which says only a married couple can apply to adopt jointly.
Young Nats national president Daniel Fielding told NZ Newswire there were passionate debates both for and against the issue...
...The New Zealand Herald reported National MP Nikki Kaye and Green MP Kevin Hague are working on a bill to legalise gay adoption.
Labour MP Jacinda Ardern also wants gay adoption legalised, and has tabled a private members bill, seeking to update adoption laws and "put the interests of children at the heart of any decision-making about their future".
She wants it to replace the Adoption Act.
