Thread: "Americans are always liberal and noble"

As you know I enjoy studying German. I intend to be able to speak sehr gut at some point. I like to collect older pedagogical books, because of the amusing approaches. Here is a sentence from a conversational-approach book.

"Yes, sir; we call that "ein Trinkgeld" in German, and Americans usually give good tips. Americans are always liberal and noble."

Just an example of what was squandered by two world wars. Obviously the Germans don't hate us today, but what a waste.

"Liberal" of course doesn't imply leftie there.

Its true that Germans were very interested in America, and well disposed to the U.S. They were consumers of American Culture (Americana). Wild Bill Cody's "Wild West Show", and anything to do with "Cowboys and Indians" were hugely popular in Germany. American Books were widely read as well. Not to mention that they were the heaviest European immigrants to America from the earliest times.
