Where Is ICE? ‘Do I Look Illegal?’

In protests fueled by anger over a tough anti-illegal immigrant law in Arizona, tens of thousands of demonstrators joined marches and rallies Saturday in cities across the country, calling on Congress to pass an immigration overhaul.
Organizers said rallies and vigils were held in more than 70 places around the country.
In Washington, Representative Luis V. Gutierrez, Democrat of Illinois, was arrested after staging a sit-in on the sidewalk in front of the White House with about three dozen other people, in front of a crowd of thousands. At a rally before he was arrested, Mr. Gutierrez, speaking in English and in Spanish, evoked memories of the civil rights movement of the 1960s.
In all, 35 people were arrested in the sit-in, the United States Park Police said.More

More than 60,000 people turned out at the biggest rally in Los Angeles, where Cuban-born singer Gloria Estefan delivered the day’s refrain: Immigrants are hardworking people, not criminals. At the White House, three dozen demonstrators – including Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) – were arrested after refusing police orders to move.
They called on President Obama to address the issue as part of the demonstrations in 80 cities across 40 states.
Locally, undocumented immigrants joined with flag-waving U.S. citizens in Union Square and Foley Square on a gorgeous, sunny afternoon.
Many ripped the new Arizona law as a cover for racial profiling – particularly against Hispanics.
“Do I look ‘ILLEGAL?’” asked signs carried by Paula Gomez, 30, a Washington Heights lawyer, and Nathalia Hamid, 34, a Brooklyn graphic designer.MORE

One Hispanic congressman, Raul Grijalva (D-Tucson) is urging tourists and national conventions to boycott his state. Another, our own Jose Serrano (D-Bronx), wants baseball owners to yank the All-Star Game from Phoenix next year.
“Major League Baseball needs to revisit the issue of whether the All-Star Game, one of America’s greatest televised exports to Latin America, should be played in a state that doesn’t show any respect to Latinos,” Serrano said.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Eric Holder said he may step in to challenge the new law, which permits police to stop residents merely on the “reasonable suspicion” that they are unlawfully in the country.MORE

    Lightbulb Shout the words...

Shout the words,"La Migra," and you will be able to tell who is and who isn't illegal. I was told to try this. I did, right out in front of the Social Security Building in Hollywood, CA. There was a pick up truck that had a whole bunch of hispanics sitting all over it. As I walked by and facing away from them I hollered," La Migra."
Everyone of them disappeared. They are not afraid of local police but they scatter like the cockroaches that they are when one yells," La Migra".
