Thoughts on 19th Century author - Henry Hart Milman? (History of the Jews)

I like old books, and stumbled upon this author while reading some articles online. Has anyone else read from his three volume set, titled "History of the Jews"?

He treats the Jews as an oriental tribe in his writings.

My thoughts for acquiring these books were that if one is to get a view of events over the last 2000 years which are without the liberal filters, then older books might hold some clues.

I cant find much written about the man, but apparently the consensus is that Milman attempted to simply document events as he found them in various sources. However, I have found references of Milman supposedly receiving some type of gratitude from Jews for being "sympathetic".

I'm wondering also, if Henry Ford had anything to say about Milman, when Ford wrote the series "The International Jew" a few decades later.

I hardly see this excerpt as being sympathetic towards the jews.

The Oxford Professor Henry Hart Milman’s History of the Jews describes it in stronger terms:
It had come at length, the long-expected hour of triumph and vengeance; and the Jews did not neglect the opportunity. They washed away the profanation of the holy city in Christian blood. The Persians are said to have sold the miserable captives for money. The vengeance of the Jews was stronger than their avarice; not only did they not scruple to sacrifice their treasures in the purchase of these devoted bondsmen, they put to death all they had purchased at a lavish price. It was a rumour of the time that 90,000 perished.

As I mentioned above, Im still not sure which side Milman was side he more favored. He was however an English clergyman.

Here is another reference I found on Milman, stating that his works brought scorn from the Orthodox yet was received warmly by Jews.

Regardless, the historical events are hardly mentioned today, and one seems to have to go back in time with old books to uncover them.

Learning about any topic in depth that isn't politically correct is like panning for gold.
