I live in an apartment, but I do have a balcony. I'm wondering what plants would be suitable to plant here. Obviously, I can't have a garden, but I would love to plant something, and I'm not sure what. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones. I am not afraid. - M. Aurelius

There is a pretty easy way to determine what you would like to plant.

Any food or herb that you can not buy locally.

Any food or herb that you can buy locally, but costs too much to purchase.

Any food or herb that you love the tase of, but can't buy it ripe and tasty locally.

Finally (sometimes it take a while) I noticed that the pepper plants that are growing next to onions or garlic are not getting eaten by bugs.

I am not going to spray any chemicals, I am going to plant more onions and garlic!
I have heard of people using a garlic solution to spray on their plants to keep the bugs off.

You can plant a Goliath bush tomato. The plant will get about 3' tall and about 2' wide. I got every bit of 30 tomato's off the one I had.

These self-watering planters are great whether you have a house, appartment, dorm, condo, etc. It's called an earth box, check them out. They're pretty cool:

In the local grocery stores the only poblano peppers for sale are green and look like these:

But when I grew some and let them get a good dark red (last year) they were the best tasting peppers I have ever tasted.

I think that it is worth growing a garden just for the ripe poblano peppers!

I am nearly out of last year's crop, and hope to have some nice red ripe ones from this year's garden before I run totally out.
