Entertainer Johannes Heesters gave up asking retraction from German author and documentary maker Volker Kuehn, who said in 2008 that the entertainer sang for SS troops at Dachau concentration camp in 1941.
The Berlin state court said in a statement that Kuehn had reiterated his position, but agreed not to call Mr Heesters a liar anymore and to settle the lawsuit.



The court says Mr Heesters agreed to pay the cost of the legal proceedings. Mr Heesters' bid for retraction and an injunction had been turned down in 2008, but he appealed the decision.
In some of his works, Mr Kuehn cites a former Dachau inmate, Viktor Matejka, who insisted he pulled the curtain for Heesters before the entertainer performed for the SS.

Johannes Heesters was not even a German citizen. He was Dutch, yet made a career as a superstar in the Third Reich, similar to Hungarian citizen Marika Rökk. There was nothing strange or uncommon about that at the time, except for those who bought into Mr. Churchill's or President Roosevelt's and their media apparatus' words and imagery about what the Third Reich was supposedly about.

On his 105th birthday Heesters called his most prominent fan a "Nice Man" ("Netter Kerl") and caused a media uproar in the Netherlands, Germany and all over the Western World.

Johan Marius Nicolaas Heesters (born 5 December 1903) is a Dutch actor, singer and entertainer with an 89-year career, almost exclusively in the German-speaking world.
In Germany and Austria, Heesters is mainly known for his acting career. In his native Netherlands, he is a controversial figure due to his having performed for the National Socialist government of Germany during World War II.
As of 2010[update], aged 107, Heesters holds the record of being the oldest performer worldwide who is still active, both on the stage and on television. [1] [N 1] He has made international headlines by announcing that he has quit smoking for his 62 year old wife: "She should have me as long as possible". [2]

The above discussed lawsuit about a performance in Dachau is rather bizarre , unless one believes into the Allied propaganda claims about what Dachau was supposedly about. In 1941 Real Life Germany there was nothing strange about a performance in Dachau

How terrible, an inmate had to pull the stage-curtain for Heesters.
