(02-05) 17:44 PST HAYWARD -- The man accused in a Hayward car-lot double slaying first stabbed a security guard 17 times, then turned on a sleeping truck driver and stabbed him more than two dozen times after saying, "God doesn't like snitches," according to court documents released Friday.

On a day when Karl George Sanft, 34, of Union City appeared in a Hayward courtroom on charges that could bring him the death penalty, police painted a portrait of a man whose initial desire to steal a car ended in murderous violence.

Sanft drove to the Manheim San Francisco Bay auto-auction business just east of Interstate 880 early Tuesday and used his car to ram through the locked front gate, police said.

Security guard Angelito Erasquin, 63, of Hayward confronted Sanft and told him that the police had been called, Hayward police Inspector Robert Coffey wrote in a statement that outlined grounds for Sanft's arrest.

Erasquin, who was not armed, then tried to run but was chased down by Sanft, who used a fixed-blade knife to stab him 17 times, Coffey wrote. Sanft also stole the guard's wallet, watch and other property, police said.

Sanft removed the rear license plate of a Chevrolet Trailblazer at the lot and stole boxes containing keys and documents for vehicles belonging to Manheim, police said. He was about to leave when he spotted truck driver Jim Wightman, 56, of Central Point, Ore., sleeping in the cab of his idling auto-transport truck, Coffey wrote.

Believing Wightman could be a witness to the guard's slaying, Sanft used chains and wood blocks to break out the truck's passenger-side window, Coffey wrote. Wightman woke up and tried to defend himself by hitting his assailant in the head with a baseball bat.

But Sanft, 6-foot-3 and 314 pounds, grabbed the bat, climbed into the truck and told Wightman, "God doesn't like snitches," Coffey wrote, citing a police interview with the defendant after his arrest.

Sanft then stabbed Wightman 26 times with the knife and a screwdriver, police said in the court records.

After the slayings, Sanft drove the stolen Trailblazer to Mountain View, where he dumped his bloody clothing and Erasquin's property, police said.

Sunnyvale police found him Tuesday afternoon in the SUV on San Saba Court near Highway 101, where residents thought there was something suspicious about the vehicle and called officers. Sanft threatened to kill himself with the same knife he allegedly used to kill the victims, police said.

Sanft appeared Friday before Judge Gary Picetti of Alameda County Superior Court. He did not enter a plea to two counts of murder and one count of carjacking, along with special circumstances of multiple murder, murder in the commission of a robbery, murder in the commission of a carjacking and that the victims were murdered because they were witnesses to a crime. The special circumstances make Sanft eligible for the death penalty if convicted.

Sanft has convictions dating back to 1997 for attempted robbery, reckless driving, disturbing the peace and domestic violence. He is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.

The police also, as usual, advised that the cold-blooded murder of the innocent victim was - "a "robbery gone bad." But, there are simply too many Whites shot down in cold-blood in "bad robberies" for that to be an accurate or even reasonable motive for pure, unadulterated murder. I will submit here that, upon the first stint in prison, a black armed-robber should be forced to take training classes on how to commit a "good" robbery - I mean if they commit so many bad ones why not at least educate them on how to carry out the “good“ ones? With the ever increasing number of black thugs accosting White folks and sticking loaded pistols in their faces, that would certainly save a lot of White lives. But seriously, in this case, how can a robbery, really a purse snatching go bad? The poor White victim this time, was a frail, weak and defenseless 80 year old woman - exactly how does a robbery go bad in that situation? Let’s face the facts, the racist black beast could have taken the woman's purse in a thousand different ways, none of them include callously shooting her directly in the head as she sat vulnerably in her car. This was much more than a robbery gone bad, this was a hate-induced slaughter against a woman of a different ethnicity than the predatory perpetrator. But because the cold-hearted killer was black, the victim a White Italian, the media and the sensitivity trained police will report it as a non-biased, random black-attack and "robbery gone bad." I mean sheesh, where is the line drawn between a robbery gone bad and a hate-filled cold-blooded murder? But really, as aggravating as this is, the main problem is that we have born killer blacks preying upon our people.

The more I learned of this case the more irate I became.

The black thug (18 year-old Jamar "mook" Houser), who has been making court appearances since age 14, made another one just two months prior to the execution of 80 year-old Angeline Fimognari. He was jailed and held under a $500K bond on gun and violence related charges. In one court appearance on those charges, a judge reduced his $500K bond to just $20K. 10% of 20K is $2,000 --- $200 or so to a bondsman and the cell door opens. And he obviously did make bond and was subsequently released. He was released upon the public and upon Angeline Fimognari. By the way, in one report I read, the judge who lowered the black beast’ bond, judge Lou D’Apolito, after learning of what his actions caused, had no comment. These uncaring and belligerent bastards make me sick. Had no comment?! What about.... sorry? This is how (and one reason why) America is a dysfunctioning nation, no accountability, no accountability from those who lord over us. Judge Lou D’Apolito just might as well have handed the murder weapon to Jamar “mook” Houser as he set him free. Either that or just shot and killed the elderly victim himself. What would be the differences? None - the same outcome would have taken place either way. When an 80 year-old woman is gunned down by a criminally insane savage beast with a history of weapons and violence offenses, and one who WAS already in jail and held under those same type charges is accommodated with a bond that affords his release - something is wrong. The “system” needs to be torn apart and reestablished anew. Those involved should be charged alongside the perpetrator, the perpetrator that they, themselves, had apathetically unleashed. But that will never happen. As mentioned, America has fast become a dysfunctional nation, if not a nation in decline, a nation never to rise again. A nation is comprised of her people and how can a nation rise when her people are becoming lower and lower? It can’t, nations filled with savages will become savage nations. What will happen is this; the judge will remain on the bench, his distracters will use this incident to criticize him as they seek and springboard into higher office, his cronies will defend him while they jive talk about “heeling” and make claims of how we all have “learned” from this. And soon things will be back to “normal,“ normal being the same ole, same ole. And as they do, the same mistakes will be made, the same BS all over again. But one change will indeed take place, all the reports on Angeline Fimognari will subside and soon, no one will even remember her name.

WASHINGTON – Florida rabbis in recent days have been working to prevent the execution of Martin Grossman, 45, who was convicted of murdering a female police officer in a nature reserve 26 years ago.

A petition submitted to Florida Governor Charlie Crist pleaded with him to have pity on Grossman, who is scheduled to be executed with a lethal injection…

Grossman was 19 when he and his 17-year-old friend traveled to an isolated nature reserve to fire a stolen handgun. The two were approached by wildlife officer Peggy Park, 26, who asked Grossman for his weapon license.

Grossman pleaded with her to let him go, as he was violating his probation for a burglary charge, but she refused. When she tried to call for help over the radio, Grossman hit her 20 to 30 times, and when she tried to reach her weapon and fired one shot, Grossman shot her in the back of the head.

Grossman's friend, Thayne Taylor, served three years in prison for his involvement in the incident, while Grossman himself was convicted of murder and sentenced to death.

Grossman's lawyer appealed to the Florida Supreme Court in a bid to stop the execution, saying that his client did not undergo a psychiatric evaluation during his trial.

Last week, Governor Crist signed Grossman's death warrant, after years of legal discussions. Now the Aleph Institute – a rabbinical institution caring for Jewish prisoners – is attempting to convince the government to hold a hearing and pardon Grossman.

DETROIT, Michigan — A hung jury was declared in the murder trial of DeMarco Harris, a 13-year-old boy accused of killing Davison's Trisha Babcock, 24, while she sat in her parked car Aug. 1, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Police said Harris, who was 12 at the time, tried to rob Babcock, who came to Detroit seeking work as a dancer. The boy pointed a gun at her, a struggle ensued, and Babcock was shot once in the chest and later died at the hospital, police said.


Harris was charged with felony murder, armed robbery, having a firearm during a felony and violating curfew. He testified that he was forced to commit the robbery by an older teenager who Harris said was the shooter, according to the Detroit Free Press.

The jury was declared deadlocked after two and a half days of deliberation, according to the newspaper.

It took less than half an hour for a group of young men and teens in dark hooded jackets to wreak havoc in Seattle over the weekend, beating two people and smashing the windows of a car, according to Seattle police.


The group of six to eight males followed and then attacked a man who was walking alone near 15th Avenue and East Madison Street just before midnight on Saturday, according to a police report.



The suspects, described as black and between 16 and 20 years old, ran up to the victim and pushed him down, and his head struck the pavement, police said. One of the suspects allegedly yelled: "Give me what you got" and started pulling on the man's backpack.

Lawyer says his client stabbed Cedar Hill woman but didn't mean to kill her

The lawyer for a man accused of stabbing a 67-year-old woman to death during her morning walk sought to win leniency for his client this afternoon by acknowledging the man's guilt.

Defense attorney Paul Johnson told a Dallas County jury in his closing argument that Theron Lacey, 28, did stab Dottie Reiter.

But, he said, Lacey didn't mean to kill the woman.


"I'm willing to say, 'Yes, this man did it,' " Johnson said, "but I'm not willing to say he did it with the intent to kill."

Jurors were deliberating Lacey's fate late this afternoon.

Reiter, a recent retiree, was killed in broad daylight on the morning of Oct. 28, 2008, as she walked near her Cedar Hill home.

Investigators said the motive was robbery. Her purse and cellphone were taken.

Lacey, who has a record of violent criminal behavior, is on trial for capital murder in her death. His girlfriend and other prosecution witnesses testified that he admitted stabbing Reiter.

If found guilty of capital murder, he would face an automatic sentence of life in prison. That's because the Dallas County district attorney's office chose not to seek the death penalty.

However, if found guilty of a lesser charge of murder, as his lawyer advocated, his sentence could range from 15 years to life.

"Is it really capital murder?" Johnson asked the jury. "I submit to you it is not. It is murder."

Prosecutor Kate Pfeifle dismissed the notion that Lacey did not intend to kill his victim, whom he stabbed twice.

"He stabbed her with such force that it went through her jacket, her sweatshirt, her T-shirt, her bra, her skin, her bone, her lung," Pfeifle told the jury.

"Then he took the knife out and did it again."

Johnson did not call any witnesses on Lacey's behalf.

But in his closing argument, he recalled testimony from Lacey's girlfriend, LaShaunda Johnson. She said Lacey told her that when he left Reiter, the woman was sitting up on a curb, holding her back. The lawyer suggested that if Lacey had wanted the woman dead, he wouldn't have left her upright and conscious.

LaShaunda Johnson, testifying for the state, told jurors that Lacey confessed to her. She testified that he claimed he killed Reiter when she resisted as he robbed her.

“He said the first time he stabbed her was because he was scared, and the second time was because he wanted her to feel his pain," Johnson said.

She added: “I was in shock because it was hard to believe he could do something like that. Then I was scared. He said I looked at him like he was some kind of monster.”

When Pfeifle, the prosecutor, asked if Lacey showed any remorse, LaShaunda Johnson replied: “He said if it made me feel better, I could just think she was prejudiced.” She testified that according to her boyfriend, Reiter probably didn’t like black people, “and her family probably owned slaves.”

She said that when she saw Lacey on the day of the slaying, he had blood on his sleeve. He told her it came from a cut on her daughter’s foot, she testified, but she saw no such cut.

The girlfriend, who was facing other charges of credit card abuse and evidence tampering, acknowledged lying about the killing when initially questioned by police.

But she's telling the truth now, she said, because “it was just time. It was the right thing to do. This wasn’t going to go away.”

She added, however, that she still loves Lacey.

“I see all the good in him even though he’s done so much wrong. And I think love is unconditional.”

Lacey was convicted of two counts of aggravated robbery in November 2009. He was sentenced to 75 years in prison on one of those convictions, and 30 years on the other. He also has a conviction for aggravated assault in 1999, which resulted in an eight-year prison sentence.

Matthew Bonner, an acquaintance, said Lacey told him he had killed Reiter. Bonner said he encouraged Lacey to turn himself in.

And Jatavius Bivins, a jail inmate incarcerated at the same time as Lacey, said he recalled that the person in the cell next to him admitted committing the crime. Prosecutors said jail paperwork showed Lacey was that adjacent inmate. But defense attorneys pointed out Bivins never saw the person who was talking and could not identify him in court.

After the jury left the courtroom in mid-afternoon to begin deliberating, Lacey made an obscene gesture at Pfeifle, the prosecutor claimed.

"Don't do that to me," she snapped at him.

State District Judge Andy Chatham admonished both of them – Lacey for his conduct, and Pfeifle for engaging the defendant.

Man on leave from Iraq war slain in Akron

A 24-year-old Iraq war veteran devoted to his friends, his dog and above all his ''baby brother'' died Thursday morning, a few hours after being shot near the University of Akron campus.


Jacob C. Courie, 24, of Lake Street in Akron, died from a single shotgun blast that followed a pair of verbal altercations with an unknown man.
An Akron Police Department report stated that the crime was being investigated as an aggravated murder, which makes it eligible for the death penalty.


The assailant fled and remained at large, Akron police said.


''He was just super easy to get along with and to know. You couldn't ask for a better guy,'' said Kevin Baughman, who has shared a rented house near Summit Lake with Courie for the past two years.


''You can have friends for 20 years,'' Baughman said, ''but you don't meet a good man like that very often.''


Courie, who was in the Army Reserve, was on leave from service in Iraq, Baughman said. He had been home for only two days of a two-week break when the shooting occurred.


Courie recently had signed up for six more years in the Army and was scheduled to leave April 1 for a new assignment in Afghanistan, Baughman said.


Wednesday night, Courie was with his 26-year-old cousin, John D. Moss II.

Akron police Lt. Rick Edwards said the men had left the Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar and were walking west on the south side of East Exchange Street when Courie and the gunman got into a verbal altercation.
A short time later, Courie and the man again exchanged words. Then the gunman fired.


Baughman said detectives told him the weapon was a sawed-off shotgun they believe the assailant had retrieved from a vehicle in the time between the two arguments.


Emergency personnel transported Courie to Akron General Medical Center, where he died shortly after 5 a.m.


''They told us he was basically dead when he got to the hospital, but they were able to revive him and keep him alive,'' Baughman said. ''They operated on him for hours. One of the doctors mentioned to me that they went all out — not that they don't for everybody — when they saw his military tags.''


Police released four photos of the suspect — taken off surveillance video from the Speedway gas station at Brown and Exchange streets. The photos show the man at the late-night customer window prior to the shooting.
Police also said they have a surveillance video from the Odd Corner rear parking lot that shows the suspect fleeing.


In their report, police describe the gunman as a black male about 30 to 35 years old, 6 feet tall and 180 pounds with a thin beard and goatee. He was wearing wire-rim glasses, a long black leather coat, dark pants and a

white hat or skull cap.


Victim was 'good friend'

A 2005 news item in the Beacon Journal said Courie graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, in Columbia, S.C., in 2005.
Britany Schroeder-Bonen, who served with Courie during his first deployment to Iraq in 2006 and 2007, said in an e-mail Thursday that he joined the Army, in part, ''to change his life around, to better himself.''
She said that in Iraq they worked together in a supply yard.


''He was an extremely hard worker,'' she said. ''If something had to get done, it got done.''


Schroeder-Bonen said he ''was a very good friend to all.''


On Sunday, Courie wrote on his MySpace page that he was ''sitting in Kuwait waiting to get a flight home to come home on leave.''


He wrote that his heroes are ''the working man. My big brothers. Soldiers, Airmen, and sailors aka seamen.''
Baughman said Courie was particularly devoted to his 20-year-old brother, Jeremy Davis.


The three of them lived together with Courie's mixed-breed dog, Lucy, and Baughman's chocolate Labrador retriever, Bruno.


''Jacob would call from Iraq every week and ask how his 'baby brother' was and how his dog was doing. Every week,'' Baughman said.


He said that even the dogs got along well.


''Our dogs hit it off. The two dogs were best friends, inseparable,'' he said.


When Courie got home Monday night, Baughman said, ''he wasn't here for 15 minutes, and he shook my hand and told me: 'My baby brother and the dog look great!' ''


Baughman said Courie also had a sister, T.J., from New York, and two other brothers, Jason and Dwayne, from Kenmore.


Baughman said T.J. was driving to Akron late Wednesday to see Courie and didn't get the word about him being shot until she got into town.


''They didn't want to tell her on the phone while she was traveling,'' Baughman said.


The plans for Courie's two-week leave were simple, Baughman said. He wanted to relax with his family and Lucy, and to cook steaks on the grill Thursday night, like they did every time he came home, Baughman said.
''He was a good man, a good friend. Jacob was the kind of man that, if he told you he was going to do something, he would do it. No matter what it was, he took care of it,'' Baughman said.


''He was dedicated to his country and his family.''
