Buying gold-medal glory cuts no ice
Quote:
WELL, there you have it. Another Olympics, another outbreak of triumphalist braying by an Australian Olympic official.
This time it was Australia's chef de mission to the Vancouver Games, Ian Chesterman, who proffered the humble observation that: "Yet again,we have punched above our weight and finished higher on the medal table than some of the nations who expected to dominate at these Games."
Well, hooray for us. It just makes you want to wrap yourself in the flag, paint your face with the Southern Cross and run through the streets bellowing out the second verse of Advance Australia Fair.
As brass-lunged former national swimming coach Laurie Lawrence commented during the Beijing Games, "It's just such a privilege to be an Australian."
Or perhaps not.
It might be that you are one of the minority who react to such pronouncements with a feeling of urgent nausea, accompanied by a vague desire to dice up your passport and move to a country where they take failure with a grin and a rueful shrug.

If you believe in Race it's a triumph.
I believe it's the case that we only had one non White
team member, and she's coached by White people, who can say if she was the worst or best of her race, maybe she'd have been part of an Asian team, maybe not.
Our Racial attributes: White Athleticism, White Courage, White Science and White money mean medals for Whites.
Presumably the author thinks that only Black and Brown people should use their Racial attributes to win Olympic medals.
Everything we have, everything we win is because we're White.
Race is real.
