Tube announcer advises passengers to consider shooting themselves

"That would be a plus," he added.

The announcer went on to hint that the reason for his expansive comments lay with a criticism from bosses that he had failed to deliver information in a satisfactory manner in the past.

"You wouldn't believe that my manager insinuated to me that I didn't communicate to passengers, would you," he said, before complaining that his supervisor spent 20 minutes on the platform taking notes about his microphone manner.

However, rather than focus on his own situation, he offered sympathy to passengers waiting for delayed trains.

"Once again I do apologise for the disruption to your journey this morning, it has upset me easily as much as it has upset you. Do trust me, that is coming from the heart," he continues.

Passengers at Farringdon Station, in the heart of the capital, were given a running commentary on the state of the service.

"Let's see, shall we put money on it, I am going to put money on a Circle being your first train in," he began, before adding that the train was likely to be empty which meant everybody was likely to get a seat.

After outlining a series of faults on the network, he concluded. "That's the reason you have been delayed and that is why you are listening to me."

Other comments attributed to the announcer by bloggers include: "Is this what having a nervous breakdown feels like" and “You’ve got two options – apart from shooting yourself, and who could blame you."
