President Barack Obama on Friday honored the memories of those slain in the Warsaw Ghetto uprising against Nazis, telling one elderly man that the memorial was a "reminder of the nightmare" of the Holocaust in which tens of millions of Jews were killed.

The numbers just keep climbing.

What is always neglected in these uprising stories are some of the events that happened in the initial phases of the German occupation. With the Polish police out of control there was a vicious attack on the Jew ghetto by the Warsaw Polish citizens in a basic gesture of revenge against the usual crooked business practices.

In a rather humorous twist of fate it was the German SS who had to come to the aid of the Jews to protect them from the Polish violence. The hatred for the Jew is really quite common yet people still seem surprised.
