A London university is considering establishing alcohol-free zones on its campuses because so many of its students consider drinking to be immoral.
Professor Malcolm Gillies, vice-chancellor of London Metropolitan University, said the selling of alcohol was an issue of "cultural sensitivity" at his institution where a fifth of students are Muslim.
Speaking to a conference of university administrators in Manchester, he said that for many students, drinking alcohol was "an immoral experience".
"Because there is no majority ethnic group [at London Metropolitan], I think [selling alcohol] is playing to particular parts of our society much more [than to others]," he was reported as saying in the Times Higher Education magazine.
He said he saw little reason for the university to subsidise a student bar on campus when there were "at least half a dozen pubs within 200m".
He told the Guardian the makeup of his institution had changed considerably over the past few decades. In the past it had been "substantially Anglo Saxon – now 20% of our students are Muslim," he said.

You're right about alcohol being a problem. But unlike many other drugs, in moderation, it can be physically beneficial. I wouldn't oppose much stricter laws against it being bought and sold, and much harsher punishment for those who abuse it, such as DUI.

I think that transforming our educational system and societies attitude toward the abuse of alcohol, as well as other drugs, especially in the use of peer pressure, will minimize the abuse. If a man's drunk and beating his wife for instance, I say arrest him, let him sober up first, and then let the police beat the hell out of him, where he'll remember it and what it was for! Public caning would probably be in order for many offenses.

And rather than outlawing alcohol for those who can handle their drinking, make it against the law for those who have shown they can't, by putting a special mark on their drivers license that wouldn't allow them to buy it. If caught buying it illegally, send them to a rehab camp that will transform them into fanatical teetotalers!

I was pointing out muslim hypocrisy about alcohol.
Compared with their others "issues" I don't think alcohol is problem at all.
I was been sarcastic. I have nothing against occasional beer.

It is islamic hypocrisy to be against alcohol while in the same time beating women every day.
