A Muslim extremist site, said to be linked to al-Qaida, is urging United States Muslims to kill comic David Letterman. The website said that Letterman should have his tongue cut out. The threat is in response to jokes Letterman made about a slain terror leader. Was Letterman funny?
Letterman made jokes about Ilyas Kashmir, the al-Qaida military chief who was killed by a drone in Pakistan in June. Website intelligence crew claims the author of the post was angry at Letterman’s comments.



On his late-night talk show, Letterman joked about Kasmiri's death and emphasized it by drawing a finger across his throat.



'A clearing house for al-Qaida'


Analyst Adam Raisman says the website the message was posted on, Shumukh al-Islam, is a clearing house for al-Qaida



The message on the website said:



"This despicable person mocked the leaders of the mujahideen." The post went on to entreat all U.S. Muslims to cut out the tongue "of this lowly Jew and shut it forever."


Letterman is not Jewish.



These threats are high priority to the FBI



The FBI is looking into the threats and taking them very seriously based on spokesman Peter Donald. "In the post 9/11 world, we take all of these threats seriously," he said.



An unnamed law enforcement official was quoted by CNN, saying these kinds of threats were common:



"We see these kinds of threats frequently against people in business and media. Usually nothing comes of them, but we check them all out."

Letterman's publicist, also as CBS executives, dropped to comment on the matter.



Other threatened comedians

Muslim militants have given other comedians death threats over the last few years. Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the creators of the controversial animated tv program [url=http://www.newsytype.com/9138-south-park-cheesy-poofs/]"South Park,"received a threat last year for depicting the Prophet Muhammad, the founder of Islam, in a bear costume. The threat originated from a 21-year old VA man who was sentenced to 25 years in prison.



In 2009 Sacha Baron Cohen got death threats for the part he showed in “Bruno” about al=Aqsa martyrs’ Brigade
