Wow, I had no idea anyone actually took Michael Sambello seriously...
I've decided to add a separate thread dealing with non-obscure music of the genre
^
Of course, no thread of this kind would be complete without this video
I decided to use an extended rearranged version of Maniac since this is his biggest hit.
Cadillac is probably my second favoite of this album (Bossa Nova Hotel,) with Automatic man
being my third.
Here are a couple of songs by A Flock of Seagulls on their album, The Story of a Young Heart.
The meaning to this lesser known song is ambiguous. I used to think it was chauvinistic in spirit, not sure anymore.
I may have a completely different interpretation of it than some.
Revolt of the Masses / Was God an ET? / Beefcake's Bootcamp / Say Hell NO To GMO!
Hey! Hey! Ho! Ho! White GeNOcide Has Gotta Go!

The guys in Cutting Crew were apparently some pieces of work, but they made great music. I'm a big fan.
And Chris de Burgh (always a favorite)

Man, I miss the 80's. The last song brings a tear to my eye when I listen to it.
Our culture has fallen like a shooting star...the Almighty works in mysterious ways...

Well, I don't know about you, but even to this day I can't help but associate Sembello w/ the song "Maniac", which is easily one the cheesiest of its day. It ranks right up there w/ Buckman & Garcia's "Pac-Man Fever."
Honestly, I had no idea he had more material besides "Maniac." And I'm still amazed that anyone remembers him at all.
To each his own... Enjoy!
Classic synth soundtrack is awesome methinks. Here's a classic along the lines of Michael Sembello, the guys from South Park gave it a new lease on life.
Paul Engemann : Push It To The Limit
Here's a more recent classic: 2004 Moving Units "Anyone" from the album Dangerous Dreams

"Moving Units?" I actually haven't heard of them. A great example of Neo Synthwave though!

No matter what, Kraftwerk are the gods of synth pop!
Deutschland's Kraftwerk have been making music before I was even born. Those guys practically invented Industrial Music which is electronic based (As far back as 1970 according to wiki). When I was a kid I bought an old used cassette copy of Kraftwerk's Electric Cafe and I liked them ever since. The music of Kraftwerk can be techno, Industrial or even synthpop at times, they are electronica trailblazers.

Book Of Love. This song was great in the movie American Psycho.
Tears For Fears- Pale Shelter. If you've ever played Grand Theft Auto Vice City, this song is on that New Wave "Wave" radio station along with a lot of other pretty cool retro-80s stuff.

Day of the Dead Medley by John Harrison. The first track on the album. Not what you would expect for music from a zombie movie.
The album is worth having, Just go to a file sharing search engine.

Some of the files were deleted, hopefully they'll be reuploaded.
If you get one, I'd burn it to CD using IMG Burn.

I just heard this song for the first time a couple of days ago. A great retro find. PseudoEcho-1985
PseudoEcho: they look kind of like they raided Duran Duran's wardrobe closet, hired Flock Of Seagull's hairstylist and then had Siouxsie Sioux do their make up!
The poster of this song used this as background music for a previous video of a tutorial on zip gun construction LOL

But wait. It just gets better. The documentary about Frank Tovey a.k.a. Fad Gadget in 2 parts.
And to top it off I found a really kick ass BBC documentary about the 80's synthpop scene in England.
