This guy's rhythm reminds me of Baltimora.

Here's a newer group called Neon Indian. At their poppiest they come off like retro 80s era New Wave. At their moodiest they sound like a more uptempo version of Boards Of Canada.
Having started in '79, Fad Gadget were arguably the first synthpop/electronica act ever.
A classic but not really obscure. Red Flag: If I Ever.
Outstanding! We need to support this music! MAD Money sound: *Buy!! Buy!! Buy!!!*

The first few Fad Gadget albums are really good. I can't say I really like any of his later "folk" stuff. I'll never forget the first time I heard his collaboration w/ Boyd Rice, "Easy Listening For The Hard Of Hearing." It blew my mind!
It is very sad that Fad died while trying to make a comeback and return to form.

Actually Collide would be considered "Darkwave" and Meat Beat Manifesto would be more like an Industrial Group methinks. It might be a bit too moody for traditional retro synthpop fans. Tell me what you think : Ladytron & Zoot Woman. I'll throw in a retro '80s era Heaven 17 track for good measure.
Ladytron is a good group. They're comparable to other major artists in the upper echelon of the 80's revival movement like Neon Indian and Mount Sims. Their style is much closer to what I had in mind with this thread topic.
The problem I have with industrial/rave type music is that to me it seems to be all dissonance and lacks any kind of rhythmic or melodic structure. And more important still, they are distinct genres and not to be confused with other forms of electronic music.
I personally love artists like Lesiem and Enigma for example, but they most certainly can't be described as synthwave because their music is fundementally different. Ambient is another genre I love, but it would still be inappropriate for a thread intended specifically for synthwave. Though all of these genres are electronica to be sure, they are their own distinct forms. When the music subject is a particular type, we need to keep it pure.
This is actually my favorite synthpop song of all time:
"Anti-racist is a code word for Anti-White"-by Johnny White Rabbit
Lol...it's certainly in line with the purpose of our site. Though it would be better (musically speaking, in my opinion) if we could get someone like Corey Hart to do a cover of this. I'm sure you must know who the artist I'm referring to is?
Gets a lot of exposure on the radio, but still a great song.
Actually Corey Hart would probably do a pretty good cover of that song. I'd probably prefer Thomas Dolby or Howard Jones though.
Honorable Mention;
Freezepop!
Some excellent choices, OBH.![]()

Haha... "Sunglasses at Night" . . . I remember that.
Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones. I am not afraid. - M. Aurelius

I'm going to go ahead and add Talk Talk. I consider them to be semi-obscure. Such beautiful application of the synthesizers...such sweet emotion and splendor.
These guys are probably more popular now than they ever were before the recent cover No Doubt did with It's My Life. I'm a little embarrassed to admit it, but Gwen Stefani sang it very well. Not that it replaces the original, of course.
PS- Sadly there is no other group in the genre quite like them that I'm aware of.

I already have a song by Mount Sims posted in another thread, but I'll go ahead and add this one.
This song has kind of a slow Soundgarden quality to its rhythm.

More music from P.E.R.U. I've taken a shine to this Dutch group.
A beautiful picture of a tropical river area.
Like what the poster did with the funky visuals of the natural landscape.
