I have most of mine in now. Several varieties of tomatoes, bell peppers and of course, lots of cucumbers and Zucchini. During the summer, I lose a lot of weight eating from the garden and feel a lot healthier. One thing to note, Obama has removed phosphates from store fertilizer. Obviously, tomatoes need that ingredient. I am using the cheap 40 LB. bags of cow manure instead. From a garden forum:I went to WM today to pick up some 10-10-10 or 12-12-12 fertilizer for my garden like I have in the past. Well, to my surprise and frustration, WM is not selling anymore fertilizer with phosphorus (the middle number) in it. They only carry 10-0-10 or 12-0-12. On the bag it says there is no phosphorus to help save our water supply from being polluted. I had to go to another big box store to pick up some with phosphorus in it.

Wal-Mart Fertilizer has no phosphorus anymore. - Vegetable Gardening Forum - GardenWeb

Tip* use zucchini and other summer squash in homemade soups. My recipe: 6-8 ounces of lentils,2 large knorrs chicken cubes, lots of diced zucchini( whatever you want to put in) a little chopped onion for flavor. cook the lentils first since they take quite a while..

Last year I grew a bunch of cucumbers and I made pickles.I saved pickle juice and cut cucumbers into spears and put them in the old jars.Added vinager and water to top off the jars.I added some sugar to the bread and butters.Within about a few days I hade crisp pickles.Easy and inexpinsive.

I'm not sure where to post this but I thought it might help.

You can store water safely without adding chlorine if you add Colloidal Silver Instead.
Purchasing Colloidal Silver or some of these little machines and rods are also expensive.

How I make unlimited gallons of free Colloidal Silver.

1- 2 pure Silver Coins. Drill a small hole near the top of each coin. The hole should be large enough to fit at least a tooth pick through it.

2- fill a quart glass jar full of spring water almost to the brim.

3- Put a wooden skewer or plastic coated wire (such as comes with silk flowers) through the holes in the silver coins so both coins are hanging on the rod.

4- Set the rod on top of the mouth of the jar filled with spring water so both coins are dipped into the spring water. The skewer and the top of the coins should remain out of the water and dry.

5- Slide the coins near themselves but not touching. Position them close enough so you can gently touch each one of them with a nine volt battery. One coin touching the positive. One coin touching the negative.

6- When you touch the 9 volt battery to the Silver Coins a mist from one of the coins will immediately begin to fill the water. The strength of the Silver Water can be experimented with. It depends on how much Silver you allow to mist into the water.

7- Store the Silver Water with a lid in a dark cup board. The Silver Water will not go rancid. You can use it even if it is years old.

I like to use Colloidal Silver to stop a sore throat dead in it's tracks. Just gargle with Silver Water for about six minutes. The sore throat will be gone. I also use it to stop a runny nose dead in it's tracks by putting a few drops into my nostrils if I feel a sinus infection (cold) starting. I also pour some into bath water occasionally.

So I had so much fun tonight. My nieces blended lots of my frozen apricots in some sweet creme for a delicious smoothy....

I couldn't figure out what the green stuff and the gritty chunks were all about inside their homemade apricot smoothie. The apricots were soft and orange when I put them in the freezer. It tasted o.k. nevertheless and I don't feel ill.

I found out the gritty and green was strawberries. they didn't pull the stems off.

Pray for rain... if you are not religious I think there are energy stimulating rain dances you can do. A fellow told me that. But you have to do it in your birthday suite outside. I suggest waiting until its dark.

    I'll pray for you.

Natural bug remedy: take 1 habanero or japaleno pepper, 2 cloves of garlic. Puree in the blender, add water to make 1 gallon and use it as a spritz to keep bugs away. The peppers heat dissepates after a few days.

This years organic garden went quite well. I buy heirloom seeds from Seedsavers.com which keeps me free of GMO foods.
Plants that did well: carrots, radishes, turnips, peppers, potatoes, broccolli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, lettuce mix, leeks and herbs.
Plants that suffered: corn, squash, melons
Despite the drought and watering from the well, the above didn't do too well.
tip for fertilizers: use cow manure instead of horse manure. Cows, sheep, goats are rumenants, meaning more than 1 stomach and they chew their cud thus preventing weed seeds to sprout up all over like horse manure does. Found that out the hard way from my neighbor who was more than happy to let me hail away all his horse **** for manure....
this years leaves can be used as mulch and protection from deep freezing for carrots, turnips, brussel sprouts etc... for easy winter harvesting.

There is something I love for gardening especially since I have limited space.
There are several different names Cattle Panels / Hog Panels / Livestock Panels and they vary a bit in mesh size and quality. The price can also vary from about $22.00 to $42.00 each panel; some due to quality but mostly due size of mesh and popularity. (They come in 16 feet lengths.)

5 Uses for Livestock Panels | Peak Prosperity

I'll make a make note of something you may miss in the link; if you cover them with some kind of material make sure you cover the wire ends with duct-tape as they tend to be rough/jagged.

There are also other ways to use the panels.
(One of the ways I use them.) I cut off the wire edge leaving long pieces of wire (about 5 1/2 inches) along the bottom (For gardening I use the larger mesh size at the bottom as some panels have a larger mesh size on one side and smaller on the opposite.) so they can be pushed into the ground along a row of plants. At a set distance away from the first panel I put another one in on the other side of the plants.
I have braces with a notch cut in each end that look like a large bird perch made from scrap PVC pipe. I space them out across the top and tie a length of cord from one panel to the other panel alongside the pipe tightly to keep tension on and prevent the panels from slipping apart. This helps make the panels sturdy.
The spacing at the bottom need not be exact, just fairly close but, I generally have a short section cut to act as an end cap for each end that I lace tightly to each panel with cord. This adds more strength/stability and helps me space them easier as well as keeping my dogs out.

I use them with Tomato plants and zig-zag a length of cord between the plants rather than staking them or using Tomato cages.
They also work great with Cucumbers and Pole Beans (These are great companion plants by placing them every other one or so that Cucumbers are planted by one Panel and Pole Beans by the other pane. (You will also find you get more Cucumbers from vines that climb.)

The mesh size is generally 6X8 inches so you can weed and plant seedlings in small gardens. The size also allows you to pick your harvest without problem.
In a limited space these panels let some of your garden grow up rather than out and they'll last for years.

I'll post a bit more later.
