"Nobody likes unpleasant surprises, but when Allison Brooke Eastman’s fiancé found out four months ago just how high her student loan debt was, he had a particularly strong reaction: he broke off the engagement within three days.

Ms. Eastman said she had told him early on in their relationship that she had over $100,000 of debt. But, she said, even she didn’t know what the true balance was; like a car buyer who focuses on only the monthly payment, she wrote 12 checks a year for about $1,100 each, the minimum possible. She didn’t focus on the bottom line, she said, because it was so profoundly depressing.

But as the couple got closer to their wedding day, she took out all the paperwork and it became clear that her total debt was actually about $170,000. “He accused me of lying,” said Ms. Eastman, 31, a San Francisco X-ray technician and part-time photographer who had run up much of the balance studying for a bachelor’s degree in photography....

Universities in this day and age are over priced dinosaurs. There is almost nothing they couldn't teach, with inexpensive downloadable content.

I feel sorry for this woman and all the other people that are paying so much, for something that should cost so little.

The assumption that people can only learn at a university from professors, who may never have had a job in the real world is a bit much.

I wonder if a lot of Americans could be home-schooled and taught how to do their parents jobs.

Instead of a father in the 1600s teaching his son to be an apprentice blacksmith, you could have a father teaching his son to be an apprentice accountant or engineer. That might save a family $170,000.

It is closer than you think and people are already doing it. All we need to do is give the idea a little push and the University system as we know it, would collapse. There is no reason we couldn't have online White Nationalist Universities, offering an inexpensive education for all our people. Just imagine having David Duke, Tom Sunic and Bob Whitaker as lecturers!

College debt is one reasons high earning (and naturally not so high earning) White couples forgo having children or have only 1 or 2 and are forced to put them in daycare because they can't afford to do otherwise. It's very sad for our people.

Photography? Where were her parents? I'm dealing with this now...my daughter is a senior in HS and wants to be an RN. I've been telling her for years to go to the local jr college first, then transfer if she wants her bachelor's degree....but she got it into her head that she'll be able to "get all the money she needs" to go to a private four years school. The people advising her have money (high incomes) and it's easy for them to shoot off their mouths but it's MY daughter that will have to pay off these loans. Very irritating.

The University of California system was designed to give almost free good quality education to the children of California taxpayers.

This way, someone who would make a talented doctor or scientist from a poor family would get an education that would benefit society as a whole.

The damn liberals and Jews however decided to make the UC system a vehicle for unqualified minorities to get educations. They introduced Affirmative Action and racial quotas to make sure less qualified Latinos and Blacks got into the university before White students. A state proposition was passed a few years ago that said you could no longer discriminate based on race in California, but I suspect the liberals are dodging that law and still bringing in lots of unqualified minorities.

Starting back in the 1970s, the faculty at the UC schools allowed in a swarm of foreign students because the foreign students were charged more tuition. So they collect taxes for the universities from California residents, and then they cheat the people of California, who are paying for the school with their taxes, by filling the universities up with Asians and other foreigners, until there's "no room" for their White children, no matter how smart they are.

Thanks Smedley...we're in CA. The college she wants to go to is 25k per year plus 8k for room and board.

There's a "point program" for the Jr College. I can't seem to find out if you get more points for being non-White or not. The course is considered to be very good even though you only get an associates degree out of it (it's still an RN program though). It's good and it's cheap...so it's VERY competitive to get in. I told her she MUST get straight As this year. I am even appealing to her competitive spirit and asking her if she's going to let all the Asian women get what should be hers (whatever works).

Anyway, I think she feels there will be less competition to go to the private school...but it will obviously cost her in the long run.

I'm really scared she won't get to be a nurse. And she should be. It suits her personality perfectly.
