Arizona’s top illegal immigration foes have fighting words for Massachusetts liberals gearing up to protest Gov. Jan Brewer’s scheduled weekend visit to the hub of the bluest state in the union: Don’t tread on us!
“Give me a break! They have no business telling Arizona what to do,” said state Sen. Russell Pearce (R-Mesa), who authored Arizona’s controversial crackdown on illegal aliens. “It’s been the law of the land for 50 years, and we’re just trying to enforce it.”
Brewer, who signed into law the toughest immigration controls in the nation, is expected to be besieged by protesters Saturday as she attends a meeting of the National Governors Association - turning Boston into ground zero for the red-hot national debate on illegal immigration.
