My Daddy made likker during the depression, to support a growing family. His Daddy made it before him, as did his grandfathers for innumerable generations, stretching all the way back to the Borderlands of Scotland/England.
Popcorn Sutton, A Scotch-Irish mountain man was beloved by almost everyone in the Tennessee/North Carolina border country, and never harmed anyone in his life. Convicted of making likker and having a weapon, Popcorn committed suicide after being sentenced to 18 months in the Federal pen, even though the judge knew he was terminally ill with cancer. Celebrities from many fields paid their respects at his memorial.
One of them, Hank Williams, Jr. has formed a partnership with Popcorn's widow to make and sell his whiskey legally. Made by Popcorn's own recipe, it is called "Popcorn's Tennessee White Whiskey."
This historical icon was taken down for the last time by none other than "Waco Jim Cavanaugh," of The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. This is the man who led the BATF's slaughter and burning of nearly 80 innocent people in their Church in Waco, Texas, in 1993.
In comparison to this bloody Federal murderer, Popcorn Sutton was a moral giant.
The only fitting punishment for the thug, Cavanaugh, would be for him to have to walk, alone and unarmed, from Parrotsville, TN to Maggie Valley, NC, with his route announced in advance.

My friend who lives in Atlanta was a good friend of Popcorn Sutton. He asked me to go on the Internet and see if there was anything on Youtube about him. He told me old Popcorn would love to get out in his front yard and dance a jig when he was tipsy.
It is sad to see these Old Timers go one after another. My old Granddaddy could make some of the best moonshine that was ever made but then again he made his own Axe handles and his own boat Oars and about everything else that he needed. Men would be in a world of hurt if they had to live like them old people just 80 years ago.
I miss my Granddaddy everyday. He was one of the few people in my life that ever really loved me. I remember all the fishing trips and hunting trips he ever took me on. Yup, people like Popcorn Sutton would rather die than to go and sit in one of these Negro infested prisons. He chose to die on his own terms rather than let some Judge in some lofty tower bring him down.
Popcorn, we are going to miss you! We know that if there is a Heaven, and I believe there is, you are making the good Lord some of the best Likker he has ever drank.
The standard sentence for moonshining has always been "A year and a day." It is a standard that federal judges have followed for two centuries. Yet Popcorn got 18 months!
His sentence was harsher because he chose to exercise another of his God-given rights---owning guns to protect himself and his family.
The execrable murderer of children, "Waco Jim Cavanaugh," of the BATF testified in support of a harsh sentence for Popcorn. This cold-blooded murderer of 80 innocent people, including over 20 children, in the Waco church, said Popcorn was a menace to public health. Beam me up!
The BATF is ostensibly charged with enforcing the laws against illegal guns and un-taxed liquor and tobacco. It has, as a matter of historical fact, always been at war with White people who do not follow the government's orders.
The Waco Davidian Church was a prime example, but it is an aberration.
The prime target of BATF has always been my Scotch-Irish kinsmen of Appalachia. Thousands of people have been murdered with illegal guns in Atlanta during the last 50 years, while murder is a rarity in the hills of East Tennessee, where Popcorn Sutton lived. Yet, every year, the BATF brings more cases in the Eastern District of Tennessee than it brings in the Atlanta District. Is this a great country, or what?

Thank you FL Patriot and Sir Edmund Ruffin for drawing attention to the sad story of Popcorn Sutton. He may have been old and feeble and not to well spoken, but he had what each of us has: an intense desire to be FREE of ZOG oppression!!

I converted all of the marvelous Popcorn Sutton YouTube videos that FL Patriot posted earlier to start this thread into embedded videos.
There are two ways to make a YouTube video embed. One is to use the Insert Video button in your Reply Editing box. Into the popup that that button generates you simply insert the barebones URL address of the YouTube that you want to embed.
The other way to accomplish embedding is to manually insert the and tages at the beginning and at the end of the barebones URL address for the video you want embedded.

Marvin "Popcorn" Sutton
born: October 5, 1946 died: March 16, 2009 Repeat offender of liquor laws, possession of an unregistered still, having distilling apparatus and untaxed liquor, felony drug offense, and weapons charge. 18 Months in federal penitentiary Deceased bootlegger
Marvin "Popcorn" Sutton (October 5, 1946 – March 16, 2009) was an American Appalachian moonshiner originally from Maggie Valley, North Carolina.[1][2][3]
Sutton's career in bootlegging—and getting caught for it—extended back to the 1970s.[2] In 1999, Sutton published Me and My Likker, an autobiography and guide to moonshine production.[4] He was featured in a 2007 documentary Hillbilly: The Real Story, on The History Channel.[1] In 2008, he was featured in the documentary The Last One, filmed by Neal Hutcheson.[5][6] In November 2010, Hank Williams, Jr. announced a partnership (including Sutton's widow) to distill and distribute Sutton's whiskey legally for the first time.[7]
Sutton considered moonshine production a legitimate part of his heritage, being as he was Scots-Irish and descended from a long line of moonshiners.[2] In January 2009, after an ATF raid led by Jim Cavanaugh of Waco fame,[citation needed] Sutton was sentenced to eighteen months in a federal prison for illegally brewing spirits and possession of a firearm as a felon.[8] Sutton, 62 and recently diagnosed with cancer, pleaded with the U.S. District Judge Ronnie Greer to let him serve his sentence under house arrest. Several petitions were made in attempts to reduce or commute Sutton's sentence, to no avail. In sentencing, the judge specifically referred to the documentary about him.[1]
“ He was a short, skinny fella, who always wore his hat—that was kind of his claim to fame, his hat that he always wore. And his bib overalls—he always wore bib overalls. Even when he came to federal court, he was wearing bib overalls. He was a friendly fellow, and of course every time you would talk to him, he would say, 'Ray, I’ve run my last run of moonshine, I'm not gonna do it anymore, I'm just getting too old to be doing this stuff.' ” —Ray Snader on "Popcorn" Sutton, 2008.[9]
Sutton committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning on March 16, 2009, apparently to avoid a federal prison term due to begin a few days later. On October 24, 2009, Sutton's body was relocated from his original grave site in Mt. Sterling, North Carolina, to his home in Parrotsville, Tennessee, providing an opportunity for the first public memorial service to be held. He traveled to his final resting spot by horse and carriage. Sutton's memorial grew in spectacle as country music singer Hank Williams, Jr. flew in to pay his respects. It was a small memorial only for close friends and family.[10]
[edit] Nickname
In the 1960s or 70s, Sutton was given the nickname of "Popcorn" Sutton after damaging a bar's faulty popcorn vending machine with a pool cue.[1]
[edit] Popcorn Sutton's Tennessee White Whiskey
On Nov. 9, 2010, Hank Williams, Jr. announced his partnership with J&M Concepts LLC and widow Pam Sutton to distill and distribute Sutton's whiskey legally for the first time.[7] Dubbed "Popcorn Sutton's Tennessee White Whiskey," it is produced on stills designed by Sutton prior to his death, using his secret family recipe and techniques Sutton entrusted to former Supercross professional Jamey Grosser of J&M Concepts.[11] Country music stars attending the launch event included Martina McBride, Kid Rock, Jamey Johnson, Randy Houser, Travis Tritt, Tanya Tucker, Zac Brown, Josh Thompson, Kentucky Headhunters, Little Big Town, Colt Ford, Montgomery Gentry, Jaron and the Long Road to Love and Lee Brice.[12] According to press reports, Popcorn Sutton's Tennessee White Whiskey will be initially distributed in Tennessee and throughout the southeast. The copper stills were handcrafted by Vendome Copper and Brass in Louisville, KY.[13]
