The NRA publication "American Rifleman" magazine reviewed the Kel-Tec .308 bull pup rifle, and they claim that it is now on the market, but I have not seen one for sale yet.
List price is about $1,900.

Longest Sniper Shot 2010
There has been a new Longest Sniper Shot reported form Afghanistan.
A soldier from the UK shot an Afghan manning a machine gun at a distance of 2,707 yards. When the first Afghan went down, a second Afghan replaced him on the machine gun, whereupon the UK Sniper proceeded to down him as well.
Two Afghans with two shots, at an unheard of distance of 2,707 yards.
The distance was beyond the range of a range finder, and had to be measured by GPS.
It is also well beyond the intended range of the L115A3 rifle, but not beyond the range of the Sniper.
The caliber used is a variant of .338 known by a metric designation 8.59 mm.
The standard issue scope for that rifle is a variable power 3-12X 50 mm.

What is the value of a good Rifleman with a good rifle?
In Iraq, a group of Contractors were being over run.
The Brass did not want to give up that position and wanted the Contractors to hang on until reinforcements could arrive the next morning.
The Contractors said they were not going to last through the night.
One Sniper asked to be air lifted in.
The helicopter set him down on the roof where the Contractors were holed up.
The sniper counted the Contractors, there were thirteen of them, he looked out at the Insurgents, and estimated that there were fifteen hundred of them. (Out numbered by more than a hundred to one.)
The closest Insurgents were at fifty yards, so that is where he began.
The Sniper said that at times he could see fifty men within the field of view of his rifle scope.
Thank God he brought enough ammo for all of them!
The Sniper was competing in the International Sniper Competition last year, where he told this tale.
He did not say which rifle he used in that engagement, but he brought an AR-10 to the competition.
