They both do fine at close range, but so far no group armed with AK carbines has ever achieved a victory over a group armed with M-16 rifles.

In Iraq, 1,500 Iraqis armed with AK's attacked 12 men armed with M-16 rifles.

The 12 men called for back up, the military flew in one sniper and more ammo (bringing the total to 13 out numbered by more than 100 to 1).

The 1,500 Iraqis lost that battle.
